EPDM seal of solenoid valve
EPDM is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and non conjugated diene. It began commercial production in 1963. The world's consumption is 800000 tons a year. EPDM has the most important characteristics of its superior oxidation resistance, ozone resistance and erosion resistance. As EPDM belongs to polyolefin family, it has excellent vulcanization properties. Of all rubber, EPDM has the lowest specific gravity. It can absorb a large amount of filler and oil, and its influence on the properties is not large. Therefore, it can be used to produce rubber compounds with low cost.
Molecular structure and properties: EPDM is a ternary copolymer of ethylene, propylene and non conjugated diene. Diene has a special structure, only one of the two bonds can be copolymerized, and unsaturated double bonds are mainly used as the cross chain. Another unsaturated one will not be the main polymer chain, but only the side chain. The main polymer chain of EPDM is completely saturated. This property allows EPDM to resist heat, light, oxygen, especially ozone. EPDM is essentially non-polar, resistant to polar solutions and chemicals, low water absorption and good insulation.
