Reasons for Overload of Electric Actuator Motor and Protection Measures

Sep 26, 2019

Cause analysis of overload of pneumatic actuator motor:

  1. The setting value of the torque limiting mechanism is not right, and the stop torque is less than the setting value, which results in continuous excessive torque and makes the motor stop turning.

  2. Because of some reasons, the circuit of the torque limiting mechanism breaks down, which leads to excessive torque.

  3. The high ambient temperature makes the thermal capacity of the motor decrease relatively.

  4. The voltage of the power supply is too low to obtain the required torque, which causes the motor to stop turning.

  5. Continuous use produces more heat than the allowable temperature rise of the motor.

Generally, the motor will not be overloaded when it runs in a predetermined time. For the protection of pneumatic actuator under load conditions, there are the following main measures:

  1. Protect the motor from blocking by using thermal relay.

  2. Protect the overload of motor running continuously or electric operation by using thermostat.

  3. Short-circuit accidents can be effectively avoided by using fuses or overcurrent relays.
