What are the causes of cylinder wear?

Aug 20, 2019

The early wear of the cylinder belongs to abnormal wear, while the local severe wear and bite corrosion of the cylinder belong to accident wear. The reasons are as follows:

1.Manufacturing:

  • The manufacturing quality of cylinder (or cylinder liner) is not good, or the surface is rough.

  • The connecting rod is not perpendicular to the crankshaft (the connecting rod or the crankshaft is bent).

  • The piston center is not perpendicular to the end face.

  • The ring groove of piston is skewed.

  • Excessive elasticity or surface hardness of piston ring (including ternary phosphorus eutectic);

  • The center of piston pedestal is not perpendicular to the center of piston.

  • Excessive crankshaft end clearance;

  • The piston ring opening (opening clearance) is too small.

  • Piston Shaw assembly is not good for eccentrically grinding cylinder;

  • The clearance between piston and cylinder is too small.

  • The metallographic structure of the cylinder does not meet the requirements. It should be a small piece or sorbite pearlite. Carbides with free structure are not allowed.

2.In terms of use and maintenance:

  • The insufficient pressure of oil pump makes the gas reservoir not lubricated well.

  • The grade of lubricating oil is wrong; too thick or too thin;

  • The lubricating oil is used too long and contains mechanical impurities for timely replacement.

  • There is no oil filter at the filling port of the crankcase or the bad equipment makes the dust in the air enter the lubricating oil of the crankcase.

  • In the splash lubricated compressor, the rod is broken (or the oil level is too low).

  • The cooling in cylinder is not good, the temperature is too high and the carbon deposit is too much.

  • The function of air filter is not good. The air brings a lot of dust into the cylinder.
